The visit was initiated in an effort to give the students valuable volunteering experience and skills to handle mentally challenged patients. The students and their faculties had a light hearted conversation with the patients over there and the respective ward head guided these students towards the role of Healthcare assistants in taking care of mentally challenged people. As a part of the curriculum, the students of CEDP visit hospitals and healthcare centres and participate in Health Camps for better practical exposure.

Shaheen Khan, Director, CEDP Skill Institute Mumbai said that “It’s so rewarding not only for us but also for service users. It’s lovely for them to see new faces and to be given an opportunity to step into a different environment altogether since as healthcare assistants, students are used to deal with mentally normal patients. This is new experience for our students understanding the behaviour of mentally challenged people, ways to deal with it and the nursing assistance to be provided for their recovery. It’s very rewarding to know that patients have received the help they needed, have recovered and moved on.”
